In memory of Joan Dole (formerly Spicer)

30 Apr 2025
Alumni News

Joan Dole (formerly Spicer) sadly passed away in November 2024 at the age of 99 following a short illness. Mrs Dole, who would be known to most as Mrs Spicer, was Deputy Head at Freemen's between 1975-1994.

Joan's daughters, Janet, Helen and Gwyneth, are all Old Freemen, as are five of Joan's grandchildren.

In April 2025, the family hosted a memorial service for Joan at St Giles' Church followed by a reception in Main House at the School. The service was conducted by Reverend Charles Stuart, also a former teacher at Freemen's. Joan had a long connection to St Giles, through Freemen’s and her first marriage in 1948 which took place there.
